Lucky number 13!

Dave White has put BimmerWorld on the pole for the first time in the Continental Tire Challenge. Congrats to him for a job well done. It is amazing to see this happen Dave White Entering Museum Turnbecause Dave was struggling all weekend to find the speed. He studied his data with James and they went over it time and again. It seems that something clicked with him and he laid down the perfect flying lap for qualifying setting his fast time in his first lap. Wish them luck in the race tomorrow.

Also Bill Heumann did the same thing. He piloted his number 81 BimmerWorld 328 to a 13th position on the starting grid. As with Dave he did a wonderful job getting the car up to speed when it counted most. Bill has struggled all weekend to find the times on the track. He and I would pour over the data from the sessions to see where his laps were slower than mine. It was very interesting because he wasn’t that slow. It was a couple miles an hour at this corner and a couple miles an hour at that corner that was hurting him. There was nothing huge showing up in the data to make him be slower but leading up to qualifying his fastest lap was over 2 seconds slower than mine. During qualifying though he found those couple of miles an hour in most of the track and he closed the gap to less than a half a second of my fast lap. This was a huge jump and like Dave, Bill did what he was supposed to do in qualifying. He laid down his personal best lap all weekend to give us a 13th spot on the grid. I couldn’t be happier.

Qualifying ended at 10:30 and we don’t have anything until tomorrow at 4PM. So what do racecar drivers do on an afternoon where you have a big day the next day but over 24 hours to waste. Some of them go ride bikes for 40 miles or so. Some go ride go karts or something similar. Some go tour museums in the area. Bill and I decided that we would wash cars. Yes we washed our street cars. Or in Bill’s case he washed his wife’s badass Dakar Yellow M3. For some that know Bill this is not something that people see him do that often. So in the words of the crocodile hunter, “Here we have the ever elusive Bill Huemann doing something no man has seen him doing before. I can’t believe my eyes!”

While we were at the carwash with my car we started talking with the owner of the wash. We talked to this guy for a while about his car, my car, Bill’s car, and then up pulls an Audi R8. It looks pretty stock in a nice silver color with black aftermarket wheels. The guy in the car asks if he can picture his car with my car in the carwash together for some media pictures. Sure why not. Well then we starting talking to find out his Audi has a Hefner Twin Turbo kit on it. So this was an Audi R8 with about 700 horsepower at the wheels. Wow what a day, this carwash has seen. It started out with Bill’s special order Dakar M3, my Ferrari F430, followed up by the R8. Kind of cool seeing all those cars there in a short period of time. The owner was excited!

With still another 16 hours of time left before we have to do anything I don’t know what we are going to be getting into. We will see. I will say that I can’t wait to see the Indy cars qualify tomorrow. Those jokers are fast. I will post some more on that later tonight.
